THERE ARE LOTS OF YL'S WHO A VERY FAST IN CW....

Hi girls,

from 5th to 9th Oktober I was in Poland and took part in the High Speed Telegraphy Championship of IARU Region 1. It was my first attempt and a great experience. The competition consists of 4 parts: receiving (1 minute groups of 5 figures, letters and mix), transmitting (1 minute groups of 5 figures, letters and mix) and ham radio related stuff like MorseRunner (a pileup of 10 minutes) and RufzXP (50 callsign to type correctly). The results of this competition are now online here :
http://www.hst2010.eu/en/results.html
Categorie A, C, E and G are the different ages of females. Have a look and see, whats possible! The girls have all a callsign and some are even active on the bands! So perhaps you will also try some steps in CW with higher speed? Don't be shy - its fun! Perhaps we will meet at the next High Speed Telegraphy Championship - its the world championship in Ocotber 2011 in Bielefeld/Germany.

SYLRA 2010 CONTEST - S56ZZZ MARINA

Unfortunately, my plan collapsed, so that I wasn't very active in the contest. At the time that I had available I was able to do only five QSO. Thank you all for QSO !

SYLRA 2010 CONTEST - DL3KWR ROSEL

The contest SYLRA ran in the first hours well. In my log where at the and 119 QSOs, of that 115 in CW and 10 with YLs. The QSOs proved 318 points and 49 multiplier, finally 15 582 points.

SYLRA 2010 CONTEST - DK2YL SIGGI

I was only a few hours qrv and was very happy to meet DL3KWR Rosel, YO3FRI Tina, SV2KBS Vicky (5-Bands QSO) and M3ENF Tammie from our YLOTA community in the Contest.
QSO : 68
Score : 9472

SYLRA 2010 CONTEST - PA5YL CHANTAL

Here are my results of participating in the first Sylra contest !
I participated with low power and only had a few hours on Saturday. I worked in both Phone and CW.
I worked 10 YL's and 22 OM's, that gives me 144 QSO points. With 21 multipliers that makes my claimed score: 21 x 144 = 3020 points. It was a fun contest !

Yet another great weekend shared with great local buddies !  I think I have never taken part in a YL Contest with such a massive participation, it was awesome !  The OH YLs advertised it very good and I believe that their work was paid off. Hpe to see even bigger participation next year !
I enjoyed talking to old radiofriends bt mostly enjoyed making new radiofriends out there !

10m was wide open from early Sunday morning towards AS and AF. As of 10m Saturday propagation I don't have a clue: I slept in Saturday morning and lost the first two hours of the contest, which I assume that must have been the most vivid ones :-)

What I didn't really enjoy was the low bands because of my poor reception (9db QRM at QTH..)
Something else that I didn't enjoy was that everything suffered RF-feedback (my keyboard included) which sometimes felt funny, whilst sometimes annoying.

All in all, it was tons of fun, YL-flavored let alone the band/mode diversity is not only fun bt also a great motivation to play all around in every mode !
And the timing is just perfect: great warm-up for CQWW season !  UFB girls !

P.S.: Next year's target is to work Siggi DK2YL on ALL band/mode slots :-)))  What abt digi ?  I strongly believe that I cannot stick with them, yet my local buddies insist that wonders never cease :-)

SYLRA CONTEST 2010 !

I think that the freshly new SYLRA Contest is a great opportunity for us to warm up for the really "big one" CQWWSSB: check propagation, play around and mostly have fun out there !
Hopefully I will be on and work u girls !

The feature that I personally find even more fun and attractive with SYLRA Contest, is that it encourages you to play all-around modes (phone, CW and digi) and bands to pick mults.

So here's an awesome chance for the no-code YLs to make their ham radio life even more exciting: Why not to hook with CW and get nifty multipliers in your log ?!
After all, CW will be a real boost for your DXCC progress if you like DXing.

If you think that you're just old to learn CW or that CW is not for everybody to learn, then you got it all wrong.
And actually if you never learnt a single dit, that's great news !!  Because then you have serious chances to learn CW the right way, without struggling (please trash/burn any papers/books you have with the alphabet with dots and dashes. Treat yourself by not learning the code optically).

..So you like it and want to learn it !  Awesome !!!

How am I gonna do it ?  There are excellent options for you out there for free:
First of all download this free e-book  http://www.qsl.net/ik0ygj/enu/ZART_r20101008m.pdf
It will be a great companion all along the way !
- If you have online facilities, then www.lcwo.net is a great option. Just make the quickie free registration and let LCWO guide you and learn it.
- Otherwise, I like www.justlearnmorsecode.com program very much. It's very lightweight too and has all the essential features for learning it the right way.
- G4FON Koch Trainer www.g4fon.net is also very nice, with even more specialized training features.
A great starting point is to set your program at 16wpm character speed and 5wpm spacing. With these speeds, code feels so nice and so natural. Whatever you decide to do, just don't start with any character speed below 12wpm. This will force you to analyze each character and thus learn it the wrong way.
Later on, when you'll have built up your CW perception, you can add the two top-notch programs Morse Runner (contest qso's simulation) and RUFZxp (callsign training+speed improvement) to sharpen your skills even more further on and have even more fun then !!

Remember that CW it's easy, it's fun and absolutely everybody can learn it up to a certain speed. Talent, exceptional skills and performance come into discussion when ultra-high speeds are taken into consideration.
But it's essential for you to know also, that CW it's not something that you can learn overnight or within one week. It will take at least one month in the best case scenario, until you start to play with it with confidence.
So be consistent with your training and you'll be excited with the results of your efforts, sooner than you think !

After all, YLOTA hosts some GREAT YL CW ops that I look up to !  You could be one of them !

WAG CONTEST 2010

The WAG contest was versatile much interesting, especially propagation and operation. The normal CW speed is now about 30 wpm. Any friends called me with "88" or "hi Rosel" before call sign or QSO number. After 16 hours was 407 CW QSOs and 118 830 points in my Win-Test log.
I am looking forward for SYLRA contest and WWDX CW end of November.

Now, the WAG Contest is over. It was so much fun.
The result is ok for me.

HELLO FROM M3ENF ! :-)

Thanks to Steven for putting up another blog :-)

I'm now back on the air after a year away due to personal circumstances. My "station" now consists of a Yaesu FT-950 and a 33 ft centre-fed dipole.

My interests are still contesting and working DX.

Planning a charity event at the moment involving ham radio! Also attending RSGB Convention this coming weekend.

Hope to work you on-air soon !
